‘Each of the texts in this publication illustrates the complexity of disability in individual, social and spatial terms. They also fill a gap in the existing understanding of the multidimensional nature of the tasks incumbent on a university pursuing accessibility for persons with disabilities in its broad sense. (...) The authors approach the key concepts forming the core of the discourse from a variety of perspectives, including those applied by the law, sociology, psychology, social work, administration, organisations, and institutions. The multifaceted nature of the issues centred around disability and special needs is not only the effect of collecting articles authored by representatives of different disciplines in one place. It is also the result of a deliberate and wide-ranging analysis of the multitude of issues, which stems from a desire to explore social accessibility and knowledge about the characteristics of persons with disabilities, the elements of the social world that are important for such individuals, the relevant legal provisions, which are friendly but not always clear for them, hidden manifestations of discrimination and a limited access to education, employment or promotional paths.’
