Scientific Marketing

The publications of the Jagiellonian University Press are constantly present in both the Polish and global scientific circulation.

Our mission is to disseminate Polish scientific achievements published in both print and electronic books and journals, in Polish and international sales networks, and to ensure their availability in the most important scientific databases worldwide. Through cooperation with the largest electronic publication distributors globally, we provide an international distribution network for electronic publications, consisting of several direct foreign partners.

Distribution of Printed Publications

Distribution and Promotion of Printed Books in Poland

The Publishing House runs its well-functioning online bookstore at www.wuj.pl, serving both Polish and international customers and enabling 24/7 order placement for any book published by our press.

We collaborate with the largest Polish wholesalers and distributors – Osdw Azymut, Empik, Bonito, Ateneum, Liber, Platon, Glosel (Tania książka), GWP, Medyceusz, motyleksiazkowe.pl, and Główna Księgarnia Naukowa – ensuring the availability of our printed publications in both physical and online bookstores across the country. We expand our sales network through partnerships with local bookstores.

All publications are subject to marketing activities. Promotional campaigns, discount offers, and sales events are regularly conducted in the bookstore, and we also participate in events organized by our partners. Each new publication is featured on the homepage of our online bookstore and included in the publisher's catalogue distributed during book fairs.

Authors can expect their bio, photograph, ORCID number, etc., to be displayed on the website, as well as visibility for their publication on Google Books and Google Scholar.

Most of our books are also featured on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. We engage in sales and promotion at book fairs and scientific conferences, and we also organize author meetings – both in-person and online, as well as interviews with authors.

Distribution of Foreign-Language Print Books Abroad

Cooperation with Columbia University Press. Since 2014, the Jagiellonian University Press has been collaborating with Columbia University Press. According to the agreement, Columbia University Press handles the sales and promotion of both printed and electronic English-language books published by the Jagiellonian University Press worldwide. The goal of this collaboration is to ensure the authors’ presence in the international exchange of scientific achievements.

Every English-language publication released by the Jagiellonian University Press is featured once in the promotional catalogue and published twice a year (in spring and autumn) by Columbia University Press.

Electronic Publications – Marketing Using Metadata

We continuously strive to expand and enrich our eBook offerings. The books in electronic form are published in PDF, MOBI, and EPUB formats. In the Press’s online store, eBooks are available both for purchase (CLICK!) and in open access (CLICK!).

DOI (Digital Object Identifier). Every electronic publication receives a DOI number, which is linked to the basic metadata of the publication and subsequently made available to many databases, libraries, and repositories via the Crossref API. Correct DOI designation can therefore impact the citation of texts. The implementation of DOI numbers is required by some grant providers (e.g., NCN).

ORCID Identifier (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a tool used for the unique identification of authors and their publications. ORCID ID identifiers are used in many scientific databases. The author’s ORCID ID is included in the metadata of publications linked to the DOI number of the article in the Crossref database. This means that when the DOI number of an article is activated, the author’s ORCID ID is attached to the DOI metadata, and publication information is automatically linked to the author’s ORCID account.

Google Scholar and Google Books. Recognizing the importance of the availability of scientific content online, we make every effort to ensure that most academic and scientific books are visible on Google Scholar and Google Books.

Polish and International eBook Sharing, Lending, and Sales Platforms

Polish Platforms for Paid eBook Lending and Sales. In addition to selling in our online store, we collaborate with the largest Polish eBook distributor: EBOOKPOINT.PL, VIRTUALO.PL, WOBLINK.COM, LEGIMI.PL, IBUK.PL. As a result, our publications are available in most online bookstores, including the largest ones, such as NEXTO.PL and EMPIK.COM. Through these distributors, we offer both paid eBooks and those in open access.

Columbia University Press. Since 2014, the Jagiellonian University Press has been collaborating with Columbia University Press on the promotion and distribution of English-language publications worldwide. The aim of this cooperation is to ensure that authors are present in the international exchange of scientific achievements. Each English-language publication released by WUJ is featured once in the promotional catalogue of Columbia University Press, which is published twice a year (in spring and autumn).

Cambridge University Press. Since 2014, Jagiellonian University Press has been collaborating with Cambridge University Press, which handles the distribution and promotion of WUJ's English-language publications in electronic form. This partnership supports the international exchange of scientific achievements and increases the global visibility of the authors.

Collaboration with Scientific Databases, Catalogues, and Repositories

Jagiellonian University Press distributes books and metadata in Polish and foreign scientific databases, catalogues, and repositories – full-text and abstract-based.

Selected publications may be submitted to databases like Scopus and Web of Science, provided they meet the acceptance criteria and have received the appropriate recommendation. We offer assistance in submitting publications to Polish and international databases, portals, catalogues, and bibliographies that align with the topics and standards of the publications.

Through these efforts, Jagiellonian University Press ensures broader access to its books and articles within the global scientific community.

ProQuest: Jagiellonian University Press distributes electronic publications in ProQuest databases, reaching readers worldwide. This supports the global promotion of scientific achievements and increases their international visibility.

DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books): Our books are also visible in the DOAB database, which gathers information about scientific books available in Open Access. The database includes books from various fields and also supports authors, publishers, and institutions engaged in the development of Open Access.

CEEOL (Central and Eastern European Online Library): Jagiellonian University Press also collaborates with the CEEOL database, where books are made available in the Open Access model. This enhances the visibility of WUJ publications in the international scientific environment, increasing their citation rate and academic impact.

Biblioteka Nauki: We have partnered with Biblioteka Nauki, where books are available in the Open Access model. The distribution of ebooks in Biblioteka Nauki helps disseminate research findings and increases their availability.

Jagiellonian University Repository (RUJ): Jagiellonian University Press implements the "Open Access Policy for Scientific Publications and Research Data of the University of Jagiellonian Staff and PhD Students," creating conditions for the sharing of scientific publications and research data by Jagiellonian University staff and doctoral candidates in RUJ. The goal of this open access policy is to provide research findings in an open and free manner, at a time selected by the user, without technical limitations.

Journals

ejournals. Scientific Journals Portal. Open-access scientific journals are published on ejournals, our proprietary platform for publishing journals online. Currently, we collaborate with over 100 scientific journals published by more than 25 Polish institutions from almost all scientific disciplines.

The mission of ejournals is to support Polish scientists and provide editorial teams with professional assistance in continuously improving their standards and maintaining high global benchmarks. Implementing international standards and best practices along with modern publishing tools can influence an increase in citation numbers, more efficient data migration in scientific databases, and improved visibility on the web. We assist editorial teams in scientific information activities to continually raise the prestige of their journals.

We encourage you to join us in this collaboration! The condition for placing a journal on the ejournals website is signing a cooperation agreement with Jagiellonian University Press for the publication of the journal's electronic version. It is important to note that journals published on the portal retain their affiliations, independence, and subjectivity. Contact us! (KLIK!)

Journal Website. Each journal published on ejournals has its own individualized, autonomous website in established language versions. We offer the possibility of preparing multilingual journal websites. The sites are responsive and comply with accessibility requirements (WCAG 2 ≥ AA, open access) and international standards.

Editorial teams can promote their journals through slider functions, news updates, collections, and Reader Panel options. Journal websites on the Scientific Journals Portal are highly ranked on the web.

DOI Number. Every scientific article receives a DOI number, along with basic metadata about the publication, which can then be shared with many databases, libraries, and repositories via the Crossref API.

ORCID Identifier. The author's ORCID ID is attached to the metadata of publications associated with the DOI number of an article in the Crossref database. This means that when the article's DOI is activated, the author's ORCID ID is linked to the DOI metadata, and the publication details are automatically indexed to the author's ORCID account.

Google and Google Scholar. All scientific articles are easily searched and ranked by Google. Journal contents are indexed in Google Scholar.

Collaboration with Scientific Databases, Catalogues, and Repositories. Jagiellonian University Press offers assistance in submitting publications to Polish and international databases, portals, catalogues, and bibliographies that align with the journal’s topics and standards.

The submission of a journal for indexing in a given database is based on a proposal from the Press, following the results of regular evaluations or upon a request from the journal’s editorial board to submit the title to the database.

The cooperation includes the introduction of scientific content into the most important global databases and academic and professional distribution platforms. We collaborate with most abstract and indexing services worldwide (including ERIH+, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCO, ProQuest, Google Scholar, etc.).

Thanks to direct agreements with global distributors and databases, we enable journals to appear in scientific sources worldwide. Increasing the availability and visibility of scientific articles leads to a rise in citation numbers.
