Язык и метод. Русский язык в научных исследованиях XXI века I (Language and Method. Research on the Russian Language in the 21st Century I), edited by Dorota Szumska is the first volume in the series. It is a collection of over 30 papers by scholars from Poland and abroad, most of which were presented at the first international conference with the same title, organized in Kraków by the Russian Linguistics Section of the Institute of East Slavonic Philology of the Jagiellonian University in May 2011. Two renowned linguists Yuri Apresjan and Igor Mel'čuk were the conference’s guests of honour. Following the main idea behind the series, which, as the editor emphasises in the introduction, draws on the Popperian model of the growth of scientific knowledge, all the published papers are devoted to a critical analysis of methodological issues of contemporary linguistics, with special consideration given to the theory-practice interface in synchronic and diachronic studies of the Russian language
