To what extent can the notion of contact be an effective diagnostic tool of the contemporary cultural reality? How can a performative gesture of the researcher - separating, indicating and defining space and the dynamics of relations between subjects in contact with each other - contribute effectively to expanding our knowledge of the world? The authors of the texts collected in this volume attempt to answer these questions by analysing selected phenomena from contemporary cultural reality in its local and global dimension. Particular attention is paid to new, emergent forms of communication and social organisation that have become possible with the widespread of Internet access. In their analyses, the authors are inclined to critically revise the notion of contact, pointing to the crucial importance of its technological, cultural and political ramifications, which lead not only to the emergence of new 'cyber-plexes' but also to the production of speculative or post-factual visions of reality. The proposals for updating and reformulating of existing definitions of contact zones collected in this volume serve to diagnose the effectiveness of contemporary social activisms, nationalist policies, political spectacles and activities in the field of art, of which electronic media have become an integral infrastructure
