From ritual to myth? Tadeusz Kantor's Theatre of Death as an anthropological fact.
Work of art-an ideal type of the “social world represented was analyzd in this book on the example of products of an artistic activity-sessions and scripts, which were brought into existence in the project of Tadeusz Kantor's Theatre of Death in 1975-1984. The subject matter of the investigation was constituted mainly - two sessions: Umarła klasa and Wielopole,Wielopole, reconstructed and subjected to analysis, based on their film registrations deposited in the Centre of Art Documentation and Tadeusz Kantor's Theatre as well as the evoked by them scripts, sessions explications, that is records created by Kantor and then compounded and edited in Polish by Krzysztof Pleśniarowicz.
The choice of a double, composited of two - in a diachronic approach distant from each other elements of the work of art: session and script, that is a culturally determined sign, which is the product of an avant-garde theatre activity, was dictated by the conviction that the characteristics of the symbolic structure of a certain social system, accomplished through the activity of the non-institutional experimental theatres, to which undeniably the Kantor's Theatre of Death belongs, are of special importance.
