Adam Joachim Vetulani (1901-1976] – eminent historian of Polish and canon law, professor at the JagiellonianUniversity, secretarygeneral ofthe Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, and activist of the Polish Peasant Party, is well-known in the Cracow scientificmilieu. One of the most outstanding historians of Polish law, second only to Oswald Balzer and Stanisław Kutrzeba. In the domain of research into canon law Vetulani was one of the mosteminent scholars in the world, alongside Gabriel Le Bras, Stefan Kuttner, Jean Gaudemet, René Metz, and Gérard Fransen.
